UKRAINE
SI VIS PACEM
The guest country of the second edition of the prestigious international fair Roma Arte in Nuvola was Ukraine.
As with every nation, culture is the force that unites and identifies its people. It is that system of values that determines development, its place in the world, and its future. Therefore, it is not surprising that culture has become a target of the bloody attacks by the Russian Federation. Now, Ukrainian culture is filled with completely new meanings. Expanding its boundaries is an opportunity to draw the attention of other countries to both its history and the sad events of today.
At the Roma Arte in Nuvola fair, Ukraine was presented with the project ‘Si Vis Pacem’, curated by Yevhen Bereznitsky, director of the Bereznitsky Art Foundation.
The focus of the project was on Ukrainian art from the second half of the 20th century and contemporary art of independent Ukraine, as well as works created directly in response to Russian military aggression.
The Ukrainian pavilion featured works by Vasyl Yarych, Yuri Smirnov, and Viktor Kravtsov to depict peaceful Ukraine, as well as paintings by Viktor Sydorenko, Yuri Sivirin, and Vladislav Mamsikov reflecting on the war.
Video materials showcased the richness and diversity of Ukrainian culture while also showing footage of cultural objects damaged by Russian bombings.
