30 Oct Press presentation of the fourth edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola
Rome, October 30, 2024 – From abstract art to Arte Povera, from digital art to plastic art, encompassing sculpture, photography, video art, painting, installations, and street art, Rome is set to welcome the fourth edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola from November 22 to 24 (with a press preview and opening on November 21). One of the most anticipated events in the modern and contemporary art scene, the fair is conceived and directed by Alessandro Nicosia, produced by C.O.R. Creare Organizzare Realizzare, with artistic direction by Adriana Polveroni, and promoted in collaboration with Eur S.p.A.
A true artistic hub, where artists, galleries, and enthusiasts—together with major institutions that actively contribute to the fair’s programming—come together to offer a visual and sensory journey through the many dimensions of creativity within the exceptional setting of La Nuvola.
Bridging modern and contemporary art, the fair features 140 national and international galleries, which form the core of the event. Special attention will be given to exhibitors from Central and Southern Italy, with participants from Naples, Pescara, Sorrento, Scicli, Avellino, Nuoro, Modica, and San Pantaleo, who regard the fair as an essential platform to showcase their work.
“The goal I set when I conceived this project in 2019 is becoming more and more established: not only through the galleries, which remain central to the event but also through numerous initiatives that will allow the general public to experience an engaging and diverse journey. Spread across 14,000 square meters of exhibition space, divided between modern art on the General Floor and contemporary art on the Forum Level, the fair creates a dynamic and articulated dialogue between different artistic expressions,” said Alessandro Nicosia, founder of the event.
A Growing Cultural Platform
The fair continues its expansion, featuring numerous collateral events that will animate the corridors of La Nuvola and enhance the visitor experience. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore exhibitions dedicated to Pietro Consagra, Piero Guccione, and Vedovamazzei, as well as a selection of works from this year’s Guest Country: Portugal. The Puglia Region, in collaboration with the Giuseppe De Nittis Pinacoteca in Barletta and the Pino Pascali Foundation in Polignano a Mare, will present a unique exhibition featuring an unprecedented dialogue between Giuseppe De Nittis and Pino Pascali, curated by Adriana Polveroni.
With a strong focus on internationality, excellence, and cultural development, the fair confirms its institutional collaborations, including the Ministry of Culture and its major museums and cultural institutions, such as the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity, MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Arts, the Central Institute for Graphics, the General Directorate of Archives, and the Museum of Civilizations. Additionally, Regione Lazio and Roma Capitale, long-time supporters of the fair, will contribute with special exhibitions.
Roma Capitale will present an exhibition dedicated to Giulio Aristide Sartorio, while Regione Lazio will highlight galleries from the region. Banca Ifis, the event’s main sponsor, continues its commitment to promoting the enjoyment of art and its social impact through Ifis Art. The bank will also present an immersive space dedicated to Antonio Canova, displaying 12 previously unseen busts by the Venetian master, recently rediscovered and restored thanks to Ifis Art’s support.
Institutional and Artistic Highlights
For the second consecutive year, the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture will present a special focus on photography and video art, featuring works acquired through major national and international programs supporting Italian art, such as Strategia Fotografia, Italian Council, and PAC – Contemporary Art Plan. Additionally, a selection of images from “Atlante Architettura Contemporanea” will be showcased—a photographic project documenting over 250 contemporary Italian architectural works, created in collaboration with MUFOCO – Museum of Contemporary Photography and Triennale Milano.
For the first time, the General Directorate of Archives will participate with a dedicated informational space, displaying historical documents and original works, including records from the Vajont Dam disaster trial and prison letters from Aldo Moro. The Central Institute for Graphics will exhibit a selection of recently acquired pieces, representing the diversity and quality of its collection, featuring Giorgio Morandi, Fausto Pirandello, Filippo de Pisis, Franco Gentilini, Emilio Isgrò, Alberto Burri, and Jannis Kounellis.
From the MAXXI collection, two key works will be displayed:
- Casa senza titolo (1999) by Sislej Xhafa, an installation first presented at the 1999 Venice Biennale, reflecting on national identity during the Kosovo conflict.
- Climbing (2000) by Vedovamazzei, a satirical installation exploring migration and multiculturalism, juxtaposing a wrought-iron chandelier, a mountaineering ladder, a fox-fur sleeping bag signed by Prada, and a cardboard nightstand.
Portugal as Guest Country
This year’s international focus is on Portugal, with the exhibition “Uma Volta ao Sol” (A Trip Around the Sun) curated by Sandra Vieira Jürgens. The exhibition explores new artistic vanguards through works that engage in an interactive, playful, and technology-infused experience, offering a fresh perspective on Portugal’s contemporary art scene.
