Carlo Magno si fece incoronare imperatore a Roma nell\u2019anno 800, dando cos\u00ec inizio a un secolare legame politico e culturale tra il Nord di lingua tedesca e Roma, fino a giungere all\u2019idea di Sacro Romano Impero. Dai viaggi a Venezia di Albrecht D\u00fcrer attorno al 1500, al \u201cViaggio in Italia\u201d di Goethe, alle \u201cRicerche italiane\u201d di Carl Friedrich von Rumohr, fino al \u201cCicerone\u201d di Jacob Burckhardt: per secoli l\u2019Italia \u00e8 stata il principale luogo della nostalgia per la borghesia colta tedesca, intesa come paesaggio dell\u2019antichit\u00e0, del Rinascimento e di un\u2019arte considerata \u201cclassica\u201d.<\/p>\n

La mostra riprende questa storia di nostalgia reciproca, viaggio e formazione, proiettandola nel presente e riproponendola in una nuova chiave di lettura attraverso le opere di 8 artiste e artisti contemporanei di diverse generazioni, con la loro visione dell\u2019Italia e che si confrontano, attraverso la pittura, la fotografia e la scultura-performance, con diversi spazi storico-artistici e socio-politici, interrogandosi sulle utopie vissute e fallite. Candida H\u00f6fer e Thomas Struth presentano l\u2019Italia come spazio culturale. Le fotografie di H\u00f6fer della Biblioteca dei Girolamini, la pi\u00f9 antica biblioteca di Napoli, mostrano con lucida chiarezza e in totale assenza di persone la biblioteca come archivio della formazione europea e al tempo stesso come luogo vulnerabile, uno spazio culturale al di l\u00e0 del clich\u00e9 turistico. Le fotografie di Struth delle Stanze di Raffaello ritraggono invece i flussi di turisti assiepati davanti ai capolavori, alla ricerca di un\u2019esperienza individuale: l\u2019immagine della nostalgia diventa un\u2019esperienza di massa. A ci\u00f2 Thomas Scheibitz contrappone nei suoi dipinti \u201cRuine\u201d e \u201cBau\u201d una pittura che tramite l\u2019astrazione fonde decadimento e costruzione, riprendendo il concetto della rovina romantica. L\u2019opera di Sven Johne su Lampedusa ricorda che per molte persone l\u2019Italia non \u00e8 una destinazione turistica, ma un luogo in cui rifugiarsi e la frontiera dell\u2019Europa. Le serie fotografiche di Johanna Diehl sulle citt\u00e0 di nuova fondazione dell\u2019epoca mussoliniana immortalano l\u2019architettura fascista come progetto ideale, oggi sospesa tra degrado e riqualificazione. Si crea cos\u00ec un dialogo tra nostalgia e realt\u00e0, viaggio e fuga, modelli, dolce vita e ideologia politica.<\/p>\n

Ci\u00f2 che un tempo era la diligenza postale, oggi \u00e8 l\u2019autostrada; ci\u00f2 che un tempo si chiamava viaggio di formazione o Grand Tour, oggi \u00e8 cos\u00ec vario come le stesse opere che partono dagli atelier di Berlino, Colonia e Stoccarda alla volta di Roma. L\u2019Italia qui non appare pi\u00f9 come un punto fisso, lontano e idealizzato, all\u2019orizzonte meridionale, ma come un luogo vissuto, spesso frequentato \u2014 come parte di una rete complessa di relazioni artistiche, tuttora viva, che si rinnova costantemente: nelle immagini, negli oggetti, nella semplice e risoluta circostanza di un viaggio da nord verso sud. La nostalgia che spinse Carlo Magno oltre le Alpi e che un tempo indusse Goethe a viaggiare sotto falso nome non \u00e8 venuta mancare. Ha solo cambiato veicolo.<\/p>\n

During the fifth edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola, the Republic of Korea took center stage with the exhibition Fever State,<\/em> presented within the framework of the Korea\u2013Italy Cultural Exchange Year 2024\u20132025, promoted to celebrate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Asian country and Italy.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Portugal was the guest country, presenting a selection of works from the State Contemporary Art Collection in the exhibition Uma Volta ao Sol<\/em> (A Turn Around the Sun), organized by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Portugal in Rome, and curated by Sandra Vieira J\u00fcrgens.<\/p>\n

In 2023, the Embassy of Australia presented the exhibition Threads and Lands,<\/em> a dynamic collection of traditional and contemporary Australian Aboriginal art.<\/p>\n

The previous year, in 2022, Ukraine presented the project Si Vis Pacem<\/em>, curated by Yevhen Bereznitsky, director of the Bereznitsky Art Foundation, focusing on Ukrainian art from the second half of the twentieth century, the production of independent Ukraine, and works created in direct response to the Russian military aggression.<\/p>\n
